Hail, Barbara A. Hau, Kola!. Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology. Brown Univ. London. 1988.
ISBN 0-912089-00-8

Hau, Kola! is a catalogue of Plains Indian art and craft from the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology collections. The work of many Plains tribes are represented from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. B&W Photos and descriptions of 355 items with 16 color plates.

This is an excellent catalogue for visual inspiration. It is also excellent for learning about materials and technique. Each item description includes a list of materials used and many descriptions include illustrations of construction techniques. Informative articles concerning the Documentation of Plains Collections are included and of special interests to artists is the Stylistic Analysis of Plains Art covering Painting, Quillwork and Beadwork.

This is high on my list of "must-have" books for those who want to learn Native American art and craft technique and design.
