Johnston, Ann. Dye Painting!. American Quilters Society. Paduca, KY. 1992. (Out Of Print)
ISBN 0-89145-803-4

Dye Painting! is a wonderful little book full of inspiration and technical instructions for any fabric dyer. Although the book focuses on painting fabric, the book will be a valuable resource for anyone who uses Procion dyes whatever the technique. The author briefly touches on other techniques such as tie-dying and screen printing, and the color theory chapter will be of value to any visual artist. The dye recipes alone are worth the price of the book. This title opened up a world of new fabric dying possibilities for me and I recommend it highly.

From the back cover: "This book's clear instructions and many color photos will show you how to create your own original fabric using a simple no-steam method for dye painting cotton, silk, and rayon. In addition to being a guide for exploring color and designing fabric, this book is also a detailed resource for technical questions. Included are discussions of fiber-reactive dyes and their use, the dye-painting process, supplies and tools, color mixing, methods of application - and a gallery of the author's work that will make you want to begin dye painting today!"

Although this book is currently out of print it may be possible to locate one at a local used book store or at one of the many online auction houses and book resellers.
